In July 1518, a “Dancing Plague” broke out in Strasbourg.

One woman started dancing for no obvious reason and soon others ended up joining in and dancing for days at a time.

They never figured out the actual cause but the 2 theories are stress-induced hysteria or food poisoning from ergot fungi.
