Is Powdered Peanut Butter Better Than Regular?

Is powdered peanut butter better or should you stick to the normal thing?

Peanut butter alongside dark chocolate is probably my favourite food ever.

As far as I’m concerned, they’re the two greatest foods in existence. And if there is a conversation to be had about peanut butter, I am definitely there for it.

And peanut butter is food with which you can get a lot of variety.

You can get smooth or crunchy. You can get original or dark roast. You can get 100% natural or you can get some which have added palm oil to give it a slightly smoother texture.

You can get some that have added salt or added sweetener or added sugar.

You can get flavoured ones. And some supplement companies also do ones which have added protein. And you can also get powdered peanut butter, which is what brings me on to this topic.

Why Am I Asking Is Powdered Peanut Butter Better?

What prompted me to want to look at powdered peanut butter versus normal peanut butter, and if powdered peanut butter is better, was actually a video I saw on Tik Tok a few days ago.

In that video, the Tik Tok user said you should always go for powdered peanut butter because it’s lower in fat, and lower in calories. And the normal version of peanut butter doesn’t really have any health benefits over it.

Just to emphasise again, those are NOT my words. That is what the TikTok user said which prompted me to ask this question.

What Is Powdered Peanut Butter?

Let’s start with what is powdered peanut butter.

Powdered peanut butter is made when roasted peanuts are pressed so the oil is removed or almost all of those removed. And then the remaining mass is ground down into a fine powder.

So it’s basically 100% peanut “tissue” – I guess we’ll call it.

Maybe peanut “mass” is a better word here.

How Does Powdered Peanut Butter Nutrition Compare To Normal Peanut Butter?

Powdered peanut butter is usually 80 to 90% lower in calories than normal peanut butter gram for gram.

It’s got a higher protein content and a higher fibre content.

And when I say that I need to emphasise that if you look at the nutrition per 100g powdered will obviously be higher in both of those. Regular peanut butter of course still has peanut oil in it to contribute to its weight.

So normal peanut butter per a hundred grams is going to have a much higher percentage of that being fats.

Whereas with powdered peanut butter, you have all the oil taken out. So it’s mainly just the fibre and the protein and whatever carbohydrates are left in there.

Which Tastes Better?

I have tried both and I do use both.

Taste-wise and texture-wise 100% of the time I’ll always go for natural (or regular) peanut butter.

It’s just rich and satisfying and just makes me happy.

It also has a high concentration of monounsaturated fats, which are, the fats are good for the heart.

You can use powdered peanut butter, mixed with water to turn it into something that’s kind of like normal peanut butter, but it’s just a very, very disappointing alternative.

It’s grainy and watery and just generally unsatisfying.

How Should You Use Powdered Peanut Butter?

Where powdered peanut butter does come in handy is actually when you’re using it in something else.

I use it in my protein shakes. I added it to my oats. If I’m baking something, I’ll normally use powdered peanut butter rather than the original.

It just gives it a much stronger peanut butter taste for some reason. I’m not sure why. I suspect is just because there’s a much denser concentration of actual peanut mass, but it gives you a much richer hit of the peanut butter flavour.

So when I mix normal peanut butter in my protein shake, it doesn’t normally come through that much. But if I use a powdered version, I get a much stronger flavour.

So Is Powdered Peanut Butter Actually Better?

What I’m trying to say is you don’t need to swap one for the other despite what this Tik Tok user is saying.

Both have ups and downs, and it’s really down to personal taste and personal preference. And there are benefits to both as well.
